Waterford AC - Kettlebell Training Update

Due to the great response in the past 2 weeks from our members interest in Kettlebell Training but they missed out on the 6 week course Cara has decided to run a 3 hour workshop on Saturday, 21st August from 10:30am - 1:30pm @ Regional Sports Centre.

Any one interested in take part can get more information on the poster here or contact Cara on the details below.

==========================

Cara McGrath, Fitness Insructor - NCEHS Certified (Also certified in Kettlebell Instruction, and Pilates Level I+II Matwork) is starting a 6 week course in Kettlebell training at the RSC from Thursday, 15th July from 5:30pm - 6:30pm. The training will take place outdoors at the RSC and if it is raining an indoor venue will be used. More information is available on the poster here and an outline of the benefits associated below. Anyone interested in taking part can contact Cara on 087-2273203 or by email.

The Benefits

  • Kettlebells teach the body to absorb force and redirect it and to accelerate and decelerate weights. A skill athletes use when they change directions while running and playing for example.
  • Kettlebell training builds strength, flexibility and helps injury prevention. Due to the shape of the bell, muscles are often loaded and stretched through a greater range of motion than with classical training, closely simulating in the training room what happens on the field.
  • The posterior chain gets trained explosively through a full range of motion with kettlebell throws and swings.
  • Because the centre of gravity of the bell is always changing, coordination, timing, awareness and agility are constantly challenged as they are required to properly execute the drills.
  • Full body ballistic kettlebell drills build explosive power endurance and General Physical Preparedness (GPP). Ballistic drills teach the body how to generate power in the legs and transfer it to the arms. An essential and valuable skill for any athlete.

Waterford AC - Stoneyford 10K Challenge

The inaugural run of the Stoneyford 10km Challenge will take place on Sunday, 23rd May 2010. This is an initiative of the Stoneyford Parents Association and was born out of a need to raise money for Scoil Náisiúnta Chiaráin Naofa, our local primary school. In this difficult and restrictive budgetary climate we find ourselves , parents and teachers are having to find varied ways to raise funds for necessary and innovative school projects.

The Stoneyford 10km Challenge is a 10 kilometer road race/event. It should appeal to all, both young and old, from the seriously competitive athlete to the casual jogger, the dedicated walker or carefree stroller. Revolving around the race, will be a family fun day. All are welcome to enjoy the various family entertainment events that will take place in the Stoneyford Community Centre/Field afterwards.

The Stoneyford 10km Challenge will begin in the picturesque village of Stoneyford. It will then turn southwest, following the Kings River, past the historic Kells Priory and returning back in the shadows of the nearby Kilree Tower, finishing to a warm welcome back in the Village. The May countryside will be stunning. While the views are breathtaking, the route is challenging, with hills and valleys intermingled along the way. Thus, it will be paradoxically tough but fun!

There is an overall cash prize fund of €1,000. The first male and female over the finish line will receive €250 each; there will be €150 each for the second male and female and the third male and female will receive €100 each. For those of us less competitive, there is no need to worry as there will be numerous spot prizes and age category prizes. Goodie bags and refreshments will also be available to all finishers.

The entry fee is €20 for Runners (chipped) and €10 for Walkers. You can enter via the entry form on this page or register online at www.runireland.com or www.stoneyfordonline.com. All proceeds will go to Scoil Náisiúnta Chiaráin Naofa, Stoneyford, Co. Kilkenny.

We are looking good for the summer season ahead. Keep an eye on the web here for more similiar events.
